Music Advert Second Draft

This is the second draft of my music advert. I have used the same text for the name of the artist and the album as on the Digipak front cover, except this time the title is black and red. The image on my advert is the image on the inside left of the Digipak, giving the audience a view inside of his album, which they would realise after purchasing. I have also inserted a small image of the Digipak front cover, so the audience would know what to look for.

These are the results of my survey

People preferred option 2, therefore I will use that as the font for my artists name. However, as option one was very close behind in the results, I've decided I will use this font for my album title.

Music Video YouTube Analytics

These analytics, provided by YouTube, have allowed me to see when and what traffic my music video gained. As expected, due to the previous feedback I received from survey monkey, the majority of my audience were female. The video was originally uploaded to the internet via YouTube before it was posted onto Blogger, Twitter or Facebook, so it was inevitable that the top playback locations would be on YouTube. Additionally, with my target audience being teenagers and young adults, I did predict that a lot of viewings would be from mobile apps. However, the one aspect I didn't foresee was the amount of views, as the video received over 100views within the first 24hours. All these statistics have told me that the video was not only successfull, but also extremely liked among my target audience.

Music Video Feedback Results

This feedback confirms that my target audience are in fact older teenagers and young adults, aged between 17 and 24.

As expected, the majority of my audience were female, due to the genre of our video.

This question proves our music video was a success, as 100& of those who were surveyed enjoyed it.

This question tells us our video was understandable.

Most of my audience believed my video suited the R&B genre. I think those who answered 'sort of', were referring to just the modern R&B genre.

80% of the audience recognised the placard scene, and those who didn't most probably haven't seen the film.

Our flashbacks and the desaturation effect used to indicate them were effective, as 1/10 surveyed found that they were indicated sufficiently.

Again, this question confirms our video was successful, as it was rated mostly 10/10, and no less than 8/10.

100% of people said the video made them want to re-watch it, this is another aspect which proves we achieved our goal with the music video.

If we made the music video again, I would consider some of these changes, however thankfully they are only minor improvements.

Music Video

This is our final music video, 'Should've Kissed You', which was created on Final Cut Express.

As most of the scene ideas were mine, I organised most of the locations because I knew how the video was meant to look. Then because I am friends with the two actors, I had to arrange the filming with them and Billy, to suit everyone's schedule.
Both Billy and myself contributed to the filming of the video, over our six production days. For the still shots; Either I filmed them myself or sometimes I set up the camera - as I knew what angles or shots we needed and directed our actors - whilst Billy did the recording. However, for the camera movements such as pan - cos I was much steadier and aware of how the camera must move - I carried out this part of the filming. For example: in the final scene, when the camera circles the 'kiss', I had to do that to keep it as steady as possible.
I edited most of the Music Video Draft on imovie, as well as the entire of the Final Music Video in final cut express. However, the photo booth scene we worked on together. After searching youtube for tutorials on how to create a flash, we found our own way by creating a freeze frame of where I chose the photo would be taken, then I brightened the freeze frame (still image) to appear like a camera flash.

Production Day 6

Wednesday 18th January 2012
Wapping

Today we re-filmed the final scenes of our music video, cos when we filmed before the camera was running out of charge so we rushed to finish, therefore the end scene - which is what the whole video has been working up to - wasn't that good.

Magazine Advert First Draft

This is the first draft of my magazine advert. I edited the photo on Photoshop and then created the poster on Photoshop too.

Digi Pak Second Draft

This is another draft of my Digi Pack, using the new photos of my artist.

                                               Front                                              Back
                                               Inside Left                              Inside Right

Images of the Artist

When planning the final photo shoot of my artist, I decided to research the different album covers of other R&B male artists. I decided if I mimicked some of the poses and/or the outfits, then I would created a stronger recognition among my audience of the R&B genre.

Artists Images 2

I decided to take some more photos of my artist as his original costume didn't suit the genre or his character that well. In the music video, I have portrayed my artist as a more down to earth and casual artist, so that the target audience of teenagers to young adults could identify with him. Additionally, as the majority of the audience are female, making him appear as a more grounded character will attract stronger female attention as he will seem reachable. Therefore, I decided to make the clothing in the images more similar to that in the video. To do this, I asked my artist to wear the same jacket and hoody with chinos. To add to this, he is wearing a red watch and a top in the shade of red, to amplify the love interest featured in his album.

Digi Pak First Draft

This is the first draft of my Digi Pak. I edited the photos of my artist on Photoshop, then created the Digi Pak on Adobe Illustrator.

To improve this draft, I think I will need to retake my images as they do not suit the start iconography of my artist that I have developed in the music video. There is no small print information on the back cover, such as the record label or the publishing company, which is somethign featured on all music albums. Additionally, I think I need to use more creative fonts for the artist and album name, as they do not reflect the artist or the genre.

Second Magazine Advert Analysis

The artist is seated on a throne, showing her to be powerful, independent and superior. However instead of wearing a crown on her head, she has it in her hand, suggesting she hasn’t let fame get to her head and she is still a down to earth person. The laid back position could suggest she is quite relaxed and blasé. Alternatively, it could represent her has having a lot of attitude, especially as she seems to be holding a royal staff. The whole image of her sat on a throne with a crown and a royal staff, portrays her to be a queen of pop.

The gold and silver used in this images express wealth and importance, whilst the pink on both the chair and her lips is a display of her vibrant character and music. Additionally, the contrasting colours of black and white portray the diversity of her as a person as well as her music, a depiction of the music that would be expected in the album, as she covers genres such as; Pop, R&B, Rock, Dance and Electronic.

Gwen is featured in the centre of the advert, with the throne, crown and royal staff around her, and all the information under her. This shows how the artist’s eccentric style often places her in the centre of the limelight.  The font of the writing conveys the glamorous side to the artist, reinforced by her stylish clothing – in addition, this could be a reflection of her other occupation, fashion design.

Due to the pink, gold and silver giving the advert a glamorous appearance, it is evident that the main genre would be Pop. As well, this can be supported by the royal and wealthy portrayals shown in the mis en scene, and the artists appearance; clothing, hair style and make up.

The advert focuses more on informing the audience of the artists name, something which most people would already know at this stage in her career. The album title, including image of the album front cover is shown, so the audience would know what to look for when interested in buying. Also, two well-known songs which had already being released; ‘What You Waiting For?’ and ‘Rich Girl’, are featured to attract people who may know and like those particular songs.
In the image, due to the mis en scene, the artist is shown to be powerful and important, a positive reflection of her. This idea of importance is suggestive towards the success of both her music and her career. Also, the main factor is that it advertises the new album, using a cropped version of the image on the album front cover for the advert itself, featuring a picture of the album and referring to songs which the audience may already be familiar with to increase custom

Magazine Advert Analysis

The artists clothing; loose white t-shirt and baggy jeans are typical clothes for a rapper. Additionally, his tattoos make him appear 'street'. The rosary beads hanging from his right hand/jeans pocket is reflective of his religion. The background has some blocks of flats featured to his left in the direction he is looking, showing his upbringing, where he has come from, alternatively this could be to symbolise how his album is urban.

Most of the colours are pale and cool; white, light grey and blue, possibly used to signify how the artist him self is quite cool and laid back. Whilst the rest of the colours are dark; dark blue and black. The contrast between the two sets of colours could be representative of the range of music, or the artists different personality.

The text in slanted boxes is a common association with Hip Hop, Grime, R&B or Rap therefore it suits the artist.
The advert is laid out almost identical to the front album cover. However, the artist name is in the top right corner and also, it includes the release date and other artists who feature in the album. In the left hand corner is a small image of the actual album cover and in the right hand corner is a list of images where the album is available to buy, such as: HMV and itunes.

Due to the urban and street appearance of the artist and the background, the audience would know that the genre of the advert and the album is Rap/Hip-Hop.

The advert is almost identical to the front cover of the Digipak, in order to create audience recognition. As well as this, a picture of the album front cover is featured in the bottom left of the advert, so the audience know what to buy. Then in the bottom right corner, a list of logos are featured, where the album is available to purchase.

The inclusion of names of other well known artists of this genre makes the artist seem important and respectable. His clothing matches the colour scheme of the advert, suggestive to the idea that he matches his genre of music well, portraying him as a good artist.

My Digipak Layout

This is the first draft of my digipak layout. I chose a simple Digi Pak as new artists generally have them as they are cheaper to manufacture and their success would still be unknown.
