Second Magazine Advert Analysis

 The artist is seated on a throne, showing her to be powerful, independent and superior. However instead of wearing a crown on her head, she has it in her hand, suggesting she hasn’t let fame get to her head and she is still a down to earth person. The laid back position could suggest she is quite relaxed and blasé. Alternatively, it could represent her has having a lot of attitude, especially as she seems to be holding a royal staff. The whole image of her sat on a throne with a crown and a royal staff, portrays her to be a queen of pop.
 

 The gold and silver used in this images express wealth and importance, whilst the pink on both the chair and her lips is a display of her vibrant character and music. Additionally, the contrasting colours of black and white portray the diversity of her as a person as well as her music, a depiction of the music that would be expected in the album, as she covers genres such as; Pop, R&B, Rock, Dance and Electronic.

 

 Gwen is featured in the centre of the advert, with the throne, crown and royal staff around her, and all the information under her. This shows how the artist’s eccentric style often places her in the centre of the limelight.  The font of the writing conveys the glamorous side to the artist, reinforced by her stylish clothing – in addition, this could be a reflection of her other occupation, fashion design.

 

 Due to the pink, gold and silver giving the advert a glamorous appearance, it is evident that the main genre would be Pop. As well, this can be supported by the royal and wealthy portrayals shown in the mis en scene, and the artists appearance; clothing, hair style and make up.

                                

 The advert focuses more on informing the audience of the artists name, something which most people would already know at this stage in her career. The album title, including image of the album front cover is shown, so the audience would know what to look for when interested in buying. Also, two well-known songs which had already being released; ‘What You Waiting For?’ and ‘Rich Girl’, are featured to attract people who may know and like those particular songs.

 In the image, due to the mis en scene, the artist is shown to be powerful and important, a positive reflection of her. This idea of importance is suggestive towards the success of both her music and her career. Also, the main factor is that it advertises the new album, using a cropped version of the image on the album front cover for the advert itself, featuring a picture of the album and referring to songs which the audience may already be familiar with to increase custom
